ChatGPT got an update with image creation capabilities this week. While it's fun to play around with, keep some legal implications in mind.

What's good? The images generated via Hashtag#ChatGPT in various styles and different objects and persons are of amazing quality. Further, capabilities to edit images are significantly improved, allowing you to control it via chat-based interactions. These are great features, and I love using AI image generators myself a lot.

What's concerning? You likely have seen many "Ghibli-fied" images throughout the last days. Creating images in this unique style is only possible because OpenAI's AI has been trained on images taken from videos from Studio Ghibli. Taken without asking for permission. OpenAI states: "We added a refusal which triggers when a user attempts to generate an image in the style of a living artist." Well - it's interesting to note that one founder of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, is still alive.

If you want to understand what Miyazaki thinks about AI-generated images and videos, read this article from the Rolling Stone.

Creativity is more than optimizing prompts for an AI. It's a true art when done well. I don't fear about the future success of Studio Ghibli, as they are an established brand.

However, how will young aspiring artists develop when being confronted with AI replicating their unique art works in an instance?
